Mark - asked a question.
Has anyone had success in syncing data with Podio and an other database? We are looking into getting some data into Retool to do some reporting, but seemingly will run into sync issues since Podio's API limits the number of items to pull at one time to 500. So, we would need to do a batch update loop, unless there is some other way around that. Any advice anyone has on how best to deal with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hey Mark,
Yes, pulling data from Podio is a bit complicated in that each record has a lot of data, including revisions, and is stored in JSON with more than a few levels. Even if you get pagination working so you can pull what you need in multiple calls, you will likely hit rate limits.
I do not recommend doing in-depth, serious reporting by reading Podio in the moment. Even systems that appear to do this likely maintain a copy of the flattened data and update it as needed.
There are some options that make things simpler.
You can use Procfu.com and set up a data sync off to a MySQL (hosted on your own or with someone like Digital Ocean). This has the effect of flattening the data so you have just the current record. Procfu handles getting updates as records change, so the MySQL stays current.
You can also use techEgo's SYNC product, which will back up all of your Podio Data to their system. They then have various ways to access that data, or you can sync it again to a MySQL server.
I have had a client make their own sync to a SQL server; however, this is trickier than it seems.
