API Key Generator fails with "The was an error processing your request" on ApiKeys/Create. Please create an API key manually

I am the account owner (subdomain: resources-unlimited, ShareFile Advanced plan) and cannot create an API key through https://api.sharefile.com/apikeys. Every submission fails with the generic error page "The was an error processing your request" at /error?aspxerrorpath=/ApiKeys/Create. I have tried three variants: full form with redirect URI, minimal form with short description, and name-only with the "I don't know or will not use a Redirect URI" option ticked. All fail identically. I am logged in correctly (the apikeys page shows my username and subdomain) and I receive no permissions message. Please create an API key manually for this account, or advise what is blocking the generator. Requested key details: Application name: Synapsis. Description: Data room integration for the firm practice management platform. Redirect URI: https://synapsis-xi.vercel.app/api/sharefile-oauth. Happy to confirm account details privately. Thank you.

  • Hello @David Bowman - Thank you for posting on the forums. Could you please go through the post I get this every time I try to create an API key for our org. We only have one other key, so I know I'm not hitting the max number available. and check if the solution works?

Copied from the post above for easy readability:

There are two prerequisites that you should have while creating an API key

    1. You should have the "Access Company Account Permissions" enabled for the user account (Ideally, we recommend having a service user with all permissions for API automations)
    2. Your API key must not include "ShareFile" in it - please name it for which application it is being used for like Postman, Zapier, etc.

If it doesn't, please reach out to us via a chat. You can reference this forum post for the support agent to review.
